Perfect for beginners and experts alike, these grooved uninoculated dowels are made from kiln-dried, sustainably sourced Schima Superba wood, and offer a fantastic way to create your own gourmet mushroom plug spawn to start your mushroom-growing journey without the plastic or the high tech approach.
Our Schima Superba dowels are designed with two key advantages over traditional Birch dowels:

Enhanced Durability: Schima wood is denser than the traditionally used Birch, making it less prone to softening and splitting when inoculated and more user friendly. This is especially important for aggressive mushroom species.

Produces Superior Quality Spawn: The higher water absorption of Schima wood benefits all wood-loving mushroom species, resulting in higher quality plug spawn with more vigorous mycelium growth.
- Hydrated and sterilised to perfection: We hydrate our dowels in a very weak coffee and dextrose solution for 3 days before sterilizing them at 121°C for 3 hours giving your chosen mycelium the best chance to thrive. Unlike straight dowels, these grooved dowels do not swell or change size after soaking and sterilization, ensuring an exact and secure fit in an 8mm drilled hole.
Supplied un-inoculated, or blank, these dowels are perfect for creating high-quality mushroom plug spawn. With our dowels, you can enjoy the fun of preparing your own inoculated logs and watching your gourmet mushrooms grow.

Delivery and Packaging
All products are packaged plastic free as standard. Your garden seeds are sealed for freshness inside white glassine envelopes which are a water/vapour resistant compostable paper product whilst your Microgreen and Sprouting Seeds arrive in resealable zip lock pouches made from GMO free vegetable starch which are further heat sealed to ensure these great products reach you safely!

My product is damaged defective or you shipped me the wrong product.
We're sorry about that and understand your frustration! We would love to offer you a refund or a replacement. Please contact us at hi@growsowgreener.co.uk within 30 days of purchase for a full refund or replacement.
I ordered the wrong product or simply changed my mind.
No worries, we will refund you the full amount (minus the shipping charges) provided the items are returned in new condition and in original packaging. Once received we will issue your refund however you will be responsible for return shipping costs for non defective products.
