Grey Dove Oyster Liquid Culture – 10 ml Sterile Syringe

Species: Pleurotus ostreatus (“Grey Dove” strain)  |  Prepared in the UK

Grey Dove produces broad, slate-grey shelves with thick, tender flesh and a clean, savoury aroma. It’s forgiving to grow, forms handsome clusters, and cooks to a silky texture that suits quick sautés, noodle bowls and market mixes.

About This Culture

This 10 ml syringe contains actively growing Grey Dove Oyster mycelium in nutrient broth, prepared under a sterile workflow. Use it to inoculate grain jars or bags, transfer to agar, or expand into fresh liquid culture in clean conditions.

Included

  • 1 × 10 ml Grey Dove Oyster liquid culture syringe
  • 1 × sterile needle
  • 1 × alcohol wipe
  • 1 × natural hemp bag (outer packaging)

Reusable Hemp Bag

The syringe and wipe ship inside an undyed hemp bag. After pasteurising, you can fill the bag with a substrate of your choice (e.g., coffee grounds mixed with sawdust) to create a small, plastic-free gift grow kit for a friend or classroom project.

Culinary Notes & Use Ideas

  • Taste & texture: clean, gently umami; caps stay silky, stems sauté to a pleasant bite.
  • Quick wins: tear into ribbons and pan-fry with garlic and thyme; finish ramen or soba; roast with olive oil and lemon.
  • Pairs with: soy or tamari, miso, chilli oil, parsley, roasted squash, polenta, soft herbs.

Use

  1. Shake to disperse mycelium.
  2. Clean the injection point (grain bag port or jar lid) with the alcohol wipe.
  3. Attach sterile needle; flame-sterilise if working outside filtered air.
  4. Inject 1–2 ml per grain jar or ~3–5 ml per 1 kg grain bag (adjust to your workflow).
  5. Incubate grain at 20–24 °C until colonised (≈10–12 days); shake once at ~40 % if desired.
  6. Spawn to supplemented hardwood sawdust (e.g., 50 % sawdust : 50 % soy-hull blend) at 10–20 % spawn rate.
  7. Fruit blocks at 15–20 °C with high humidity and fresh-air exchange for dense, even clusters.

Storage

Store refrigerated at 2–6 °C. Best within 2–3 weeks; typically viable up to ~2 months unopened. Do not freeze.

Batch Notes

  • Produced in small lots; visually checked on agar before dispatch.
  • Light sediment is normal—shake before use.

Low-Impact Growing Notes (Grey Dove)

  • Substrate circularity: happily runs on supplemented sawdust, making use of local wood by-products and coffee waste blends.
  • Shoulder-season harvests: consistent fruiting at 15–20 °C supports off-peak, low-energy production in unheated rooms.
  • Short hops, fresher caps: firm clusters travel well across short local routes—farm shop, veg-box, kitchen—keeping miles (and chill time) down.
